Saint Catald

 Born in Munster, Ireland....followed a philosophy that I don't in the least understand.( School of Lismore)  ...monk related...Ireland related...pulling away from the Roman system related.

Catald made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem...on his return trip ( must have taken FOREVER! and super scary...mostly on the sea....did they think the earth was flat then?) )...his ship wrecked off the Italian coast near Taranto....the locals asked him to head up their church...and he did...He was said to have "intervened" ( in miracle form) with floods , storms and plagues.

You can see his relics in the high altar of the church in Taranto to this day. 

He is patron saint of Sicilian Normans...there is a church that bares his name in Palermo!

Died in the year 685.

What was going on in 685 AD? Lots of battles in Britain ...people fighting to be on the top....battles in the Arabian Empire...but the best is China..Empress Wu Zrtian sent 2 giant pandas to Japan as a diplomatic gift.

but then she also exiled her son, Zhong Zong and his family to an island. He was threatening her reign.
