Day 1, From Paris to the sea.

Terribly windy start to the day. Waiting in the airport, at the gate, you could see waves crashing on the runway...palm trees were bent way over. The flight was packed and it was quick, 70 minutes. Somehow the flight attendants get a service in and even a round of duty free peddling.

I landed in Orly and it was super easy...I got the rental car right away, no waiting. I could see the train stops going into Paris..They had a bus going to Disneyland...so many things to do.

It was mighty cold but the sky was bright blue with lovely clouds. I used the GPS to get to Chartres on the sideroads...no highway. It's about 80 miles away from Orly. It was a lot of going around rond points.

Eventually, I decided to take a side road through rolling fields as it was so beautiful. The GPS man got very annoyed with me and I imagine he thinks I'm a bit mentally challenged. I seem to always be taking turns when he didn't tell me to turn. When I deviated from his instructions I often got...,  "Return to the route!.  more and more insistently...he had the worst pronunciation of all kinds of crazy french town names. ...we tolerate each other...he my deviations, me , his terrible pronunciation.

This is what I was looking for ( see above and below) .  One little town with a steeple would lead to another little ville with a steeple with farmland in between.  It was lovely,  There were chateaus here and there and horses...there were long stretches of road great for passing lookie loos like me.

Eventually, I started getting closer to Chartres....I could see the cathedral from miles away. It is massive,.

Below is just a snapshot. You get an idea of the size, It is lovely.
