The Forest of Brotonne.

Beech (60%); Oak (10%); other hardwoods (10%); Scotchs pine (15%), other softwoods (5%)

Where you see the red X is where I was staying. The green pin is the Foret De Brotonne. I wanted to see the forest in the next "boucle" buckle over....and that is Brotonne...it was very different....more green as there are more pines. It also felt more remote, wilder. The photo above is an impression of a stand of pines with deep ferns at their feet. I waded in, gingerly. I am terribly afraid of snakes, anything else I can handle ...I am also very easily spooked. I rounded a short shrub to get to a clear spot to take this photo, the sun was streaming in...suddenly a loud close squawk! and a huge bird took flight out of the tree right next to me....so close... I screamed and ducked...I hurried up to get my shot. I would have felt safer in boots. It was beautiful there....stunning solitude.
