Glorious few hours in Bois D'Opio...by mistake. I had been trying to find the "secret olive grove" field that is always filled with things to photograph but I could not find it. You can hike there in about an hour one way but I think it is too much for me at the moment with my knee healing but you can also drive there but it is a maze trying to get there. I drove round and round. It was ridiculous and I gave up. I had driven there before but pre covid...it is residential and much more built up not.. So, I ended up in Opio. It's a little bit further but it was a good alternative. It was empty, which I prefer. I ran into a nutty guy with 2 walking sticks, walking fast, all business...he didn't even say the required "Bonjour" when you come across another person, but I do. I have been trained well even though subliminally. Before I moved here I was not saying hello to strangers. We the saw the guy trucking up this track quickly, later in the day...all serious, maybe getting in shape for the senior olympics. and...we ran into 2 men with 2 German Shorthaired Pointers ( GSP) a type of do I have had ( my beloved Eddie!) ...We said bonjour and I could hear right away they weren't french...father and 20 so something year old son. I broke out in english as I knew they were fluent...They told me the GSP was their "bread and butter"...I took that to mean they raise them. They told me that the french are afraid of them and expect them to be leashed...They had leashed them...but they let them off and they got along fine with Rune but they didn't chase him which he would have preferred. I am pretty sure they were German. They got into a super nice white Porsche SUV....I was embarrassed as my Land Rover is a mess...2001, beat up, needs cleaning.... but mostly, I was alone with blue flowers. I have devised a way to get up off the ground easier with my knee still tricky. I bought a portable stool that telescopes almost flat. I can use it also as a sort of table for my camera stuff. It's perfect for me to help myself up with. It kind of looks like an African drum. I wish it was as I would make use of it that way too. This trail is off the main trail and the really good trail with more flowers was more of a deer trail. ...see bottom photo...WE NEED RAIN! |
