An unexpected walk yesterday. I am always looking for something new so we set off on a new trail that was advertised as a loop ( the first photo). This trail was more of a fire road. I was hoping for something a little more remote. After awhile, we got to crossroads and made a left. The signs confused me...one direction was was not allowed, one was was uphill ( I took this to be where I would return) and the left seemed the way I was supposed to go...so we set off. I should have been tipped off when I saw long animal troughs...hummmm..cows? We proceeded on. The trail was very faint and very rocky and on a narrow ridge. In many parts it was out in the blazing sun. There were wild flowers everywhere, especially wild lavender in mounds, bees were buzzing. We would run from shade to shade. Under the infrequent oaks were little havens of green grass and wild flowers. I would set everything down to take a little water break and see what could be found. It was wonderful, eventually, we got to a woods and the faint trail just disappeared. It had been about 2 hours so I thought we better turn around. Everything looks different when seen on the way back. We ran between shade spots and took breaks in lovely little meadows with soft filtered light, delicate grasses and flowers. It was about 12:30 and hot outside of the shade! Eventually we got back past the troughs and into the forest. When we got to the crossroads , I looked at the signs again...now I think I understand...the trail we were on was called ( in english) Sheep Valley!!! and the trail was off limits...I now realized that only sheep or perhaps a goat could appreciate that trail, fully. We were lucky not to run into sheep or the giant dogs that protect them or the very rural minded sheep herders...very dangerous. Like everything else, I appreciated being able to take this walk to see some different landscape and to have the little sojourns in the shady oases. Here are some impressions ...I took many photos but I love these impressions. The light was so hot and harsh, perfect for impressions, not perfect for regular landscape photos.
