Long drive yesterday...I'm torn as I can't eat the way I eat at home which has caused me to lose weight...no carbs, no sugars...It's a dilemma...My other issue ( with myself) is that I don't want to eat till 2 or so and by 2, lunch is finished in Italy...I am always schlepping in hat in hand asking if it's too late. Yesterday, I came to a crossroad and thought I needed to get something to eat...I was going to go with pizza but the place was closed ( everything seems to be closed) . The only place left was where I went and had a FANTASTIC pasta Arrabbiata....perfectly spicy and simple. The man that ushered me in "Prego! Prego!"...turned out to be the cook...The cafe was completely empty...The surly female bartender spoke english and she took my order...the 5 item menu was all very local dishes I don't know ...As it turned out, the man made up a fresh sauce and perfect al dente penne. The sliced garlic in the sauce was fresh , just cooked till soft. I ate every bit of it. They didn't offer bread which was good as I didn't need to be tempted. When I went to pay, it was the man at the register...I told him it was excellent and he blushed ...that's when I realized he had cooked it...10 euro! including a small bottle of water...I should not eat pasta but this was a memorable one.
