Who goes topless on the dog beach? It seems like an odd thing to even feed into your brain to think about, but it was something that I was confronted with this morning.
We were down there early. There were come people staking out there spots. There were some French regulars that I see…we wave to each other. All else are tourists and many Italians.
I had a sweet long hair dauchund on my left with his Italian parents ( they had a little tent for him). I could see they were nervous about jellyfish...
To my right was a couple with no dog under an umbrella…no sun for them…but the woman was topless…
Nobody goes topless on the dog beach….It’s not a relaxing experience there, at the dog beach, no matter what people might think…dogs do all kinds of unexpected stuff in the direction of other people even when you give them a big NO!
But why topless…? I figure women go topless so they have no tan marks. It’s a comfortable thing here in France…I don’t have a problem with it, but not on the dog beach. There are many many other beaches…no dogs…why not go there? It was early and the beaches in this area are empty.
So, I don’t get it…
Before I moved here, I was determined to go topless on the beach. It was a difficult thing for me for many reasons…I wanted to conquer this. I am thinking this was in the 90’s. I went out to Plage Keller on Cap D’Antibes and found the little sliver of public beach between fancy restaurants and clubs with private beaches.
They were up on decks, the small spot found was right on the rock ( gallet) beach…crowded…where the lower class would go…but I was enthralled with Cap d’Antibes and Plage Keller and F Scott , Picasso and Hemingway…There were no fancy restaurants or clubs at their time…I made the best with what remained.
I had a one piece Speedo that I loved…shiny coffee color. I sat down amongst a bunch of other people…of course, no one was paying attention to me. I slid the straps of my suit down…sat for awhile, then pulled the top down over my chest…
And I sat there, no one cared. I felt daring…I stretched…I got up and got into the water…all topless! I did it. It was a big thing for me…
But now, it matters not. I could go topless everyday if I wanted but the sun is not my friend….
I also accept and appreciate that I am a person that is modest….always have been… I think I might try a bikini next year as I have lost about 35 pounds…but these days, I wear a kind of yoga outfit and and a surf shirt over the top.
I have 2 swimsuits that I wear with swim shirts over. I see myself as more of a surfer chick…
My love of north shore San Diego culture rules…
Topless on a dog beach? I still question it.
