Big surprise that I love Japanese art...I saw that this exhibition was in Pisa and I thought, maybe I can get there and also to take some late day photos of the tower, catherdral and baptistry. There is such beautiful light at sunset...I talked my Italian friend into going with me although I had a feeling she didn't really want to go. ( she doesn't speak any english). Her husband, my dear friend Olinto replied, when asked if he wanted to come with us, "I don't like art." ( he was kidding, I know him) We left at about 12...it's about a 90 minute drive and I drove...I could have easily found the way, but she guided me in Italian. She knew just where to park so that was good as parking is a nightmare around Pisa. When we arrived, there was a line, which was surprising. There were 2 exhibitions...we decided to see the photo exhibit first. There was not a soul in those rooms. It was a very interesting exhibition about the Liberation of Pisa WW2...Then we squeezed back into the Hokusai exhibition.
The prints are small which made everything harder to see...wood block prints. I was happy to see the views of Mt Fuji but the crowd was just insane and we left...people with babies in big carriers, people taking photos endlessly in the way....really annoying When we left the line was over a block long!
